Soft Consequences

Characters face setbacks that leave no lasting mark. Failure does not truly cost anything — wounds heal too quickly, relationships repair without labour, losses are reversed. When consequences are soft, risk is fictional; the story can only create real tension if failure genuinely changes the protagonist's world.

Chain of consequence

A visibly linked sequence where each action produces the next situation. Cause and effect are clear enough for the reader to follow the trail. This gives the story a feeling of reality and inevitability, as though events could hardly have unfolded differently.
